Recently engaged and ready to find your wedding day outfit? Here are our favorite tips to share with couples who are headed to the bridal salon for a day full of shopping:
A day full of trying on dresses can be mentally and physically exhausting. If you have a difficult time making decisions, this could be an overwhelming day for you! Prepare yourself in advance by doing some research and consideration: What types of silhouettes do you normally feel best in? Are there any areas of your body you want to highlight or distract from in your gown? What type of designers does each salon carry, and do you have a favorite?
Thinking through these questions can help you come to each appointment prepared knowing what you typically like. All of that to say – we encourage you to try on a wide variety of dress styles! Wedding dresses look so different on the hanger than they look on a real life human body. Pick out things to try on just for fun – you might surprise yourself!
If you are planning to go to multiple salons, don’t schedule more than 3 in a single day. Plan one appointment for the morning, set to be done by noon. Then, go grab lunch before your final two appointments in the afternoon. Make sure to ask when you are booking your appointment how long they usually take at that specific bridal salon so you can put in some buffer for driving between appointments. Here’s a sample schedule for a day full of dress shopping:
10:00 AM – 11:30 AM Appointment at Bridal Salon 1
11:30 AM – 1:00 PM Lunch
1:30 PM – 3:00 PM Appointment at Bridal Salon 2
3:30 PM – 5:00 PM Appointment at Bridal Salon 3
5:00 PM Celebrate a day full of discoveries with a happy hour!
This can be a touchy subject but here is my honest advice – DON’T bring the whole family and wedding party. You honestly only need 2-3 people with you on these appointments, not all 10 of your besties. The truth is, you only need to bring people with you that are totally supportive of you and your choices. Don’t allow anyone in the room who will comment on your body, highlight insecurities, or throw out their outlandish opinions. The smaller the group, the better!
There are a few things you should definitely plan to bring with you when you go wedding dress shopping! Here’s our shortlist of your must have accessories for the day:
Shopping for your wedding dress can almost feel like a rite of passage in the wedding planning process. It might be an experience you have been looking forward to for years – or something you are really nervous about. Regardless of where you fall – this part of your wedding experience is truly all about you. You don’t have guests to consider or wild family members to think about. All that matters is your comfort and confidence on your wedding day in whatever outfit you choose. So get out there and get to shopping!!
