The Weekend Experience: Wimberley

We’re here again with number two of our Weekend Experience blog series where I’ll do a deep dive into the areas of the Texas hill country that are perfect for a full weekend wedding! This week we are headed to Wimberley, TX to explore the venues, shops, restaurants, and activities you should know about!

Wimberley is a small town 35 miles southwest of Austin. The city has plenty of waterfront property on the Blanco River, it even runs through the middle of downtown! While you’re in downtown there are plenty of cute shops and restaurants to explore. This city is certainly geared more toward the couple who cares about a close-to-nature wedding weekend experience.

Venues

The wedding venues in the area accent the natural beauty of the area. Venues to mention are The Waters Point, Prima Vista, and The Cedars Ranch. While visiting Wimberley for myself, I got to take a guided tour of The Cedars Ranch and it is a perfect property for your full weekend wedding. This 20 acre property has plenty of luxury camping style lodging options for your wedding party, plus a thoughtfully designed event space. Their reception hall has the option to be open air or closed off depending on the weather. There’s a built-in wooden dance floor, including tables and chairs, plus 4 portable bars and lawn games. The venue is solar powered by the panels on the roof and they have several water collection silos on site to help cut back on the venue’s footprint.

The space at The Cedars Ranch is thoughtfully designed, eco-conscious, and a true gem in this little town. They offer single day and full weekend rentals along with 4 lodging spaces for you and your wedding party or guests. This property is unlike any other in the area, so if you want a full weekend wedding to experience the beauty of the hill country up close, this is the space for you!

Lodging

Instead of large hotels, Wimberley hosts lots of bed and breakfasts, inns, cabins, and modest camping options for your guests. The most popular options to take advantage of are the The Lodge at Cypress Falls, The Wimberley Inn, Hotel Flora and Fauna, and 7A Ranch. The Lodge at Cypress Falls has a strong summer camp atmosphere with 22 rooms, riverside access, kayak rentals, a pool, hammocks, and more. The Wimberley Inn and Hotel Flora and Fauna both have more upscale, stylish rooms for your guests along with more hotel-like amenities. Finally, 7A Ranch has 7 individual cabins and 3 large lodges available to rent that have a great view of the river. They also have private river access where you can enjoy the scenery and go on water adventures. These rooms are also well decorated and the property is beautiful!

Restaurants

My favorite restaurant in Wimberley is The Leaning Pear, by far! I’ve enjoyed lunch, happy hour, and dinner here and every time it is spectacular. They have an open concept indoor dining room, a large two story patio, and a smaller room off the deck. This restaurant would be a great place for a welcome happy hour or even a rehearsal lunch/dinner depending on the size of your group. The food, service, and views are the best in town!

That being said, there are two other dining options worthy of a mention here: Community Pizza & Beer and CreekHouse Kitchen & Bar (opening summer 2021). Community Pizza & Beer is a laid back option for your weekend festivities and offers live music and a dog friendly patio! CreekHouse Kitchen & Bar is the city’s newest addition and will be opening soon. From what I can tell, this spot will be great for happy hours and rehearsal dinners alike!

Activities

Wimberley offers a lot of relaxation and one on one time with nature. You can enjoy a day on the Blanco River, stargaze at night, swim in Jacob’s Well, go ziplining with Wimberley Zipline Adventures, or spend the afternoon shopping in their downtown strip. Coming to Wimberley offers you the chance to get back to the basics of connecting with friends and loved ones surrounded by the beautiful scenery of the Texas hill country.
